Even toddlers are ready to go with a suitcase of their own.

With summer approaching it’s time to plan for family vacations.  Whether for an overnight with the grandparents or an extended stay away, there are products for children that can make traveling easier and more fun.

Whatever the destination, it is helpful to talk to children about what to expect and to let them feel that they are a part of the planning and preparation. Having age-appropriate travel gear that they can handle on their owns encourages self-reliance and makes traveling easier for all.

Give a child his or her own kid-sized rolling suitcase for clothing and accessories. Some people put each day’s outfit in a large plastic zippered bag to make getting ready in the morning easier. Add a few surprises to keep the child’s interest along the way and some familiar items like a snuggly blanket for comfort. This rolling luggage by Stephen Joseph has outside zippered compartments for easy access to special items.

Have a child choose favorite toys to put in a his or her own tote bag to carry en route.  Add a few fun new items and snacks and you are ready to go.

Our favorite travel product for young children is a nap mat. Allow time for the child to use it at home before the trip. The familarity of the bedding can create a smoother transition to vacation sleeping arrangements.

Samples of the products shown in these photos were offered by Stephen Joseph for a candid review in this article. The products were found to be high quality, appealing, and well-suited to the needs of a young child. They are available in a wide range of colorful patterns and designs. The items shown here and many others in the collection can be monogrammed.

Stephen Joseph began in a garage when Alexandra “Alix” Buckley began making fabric frames in 1981 to earn a little extra money for the holidays. Her creations became so popular that she left her job as a third grade teacher the next year. Alexandra & Company was the first division of Stephen Joseph, and is now in a 90,000+ square-foot facility with a team of over 125 people .
