JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa
The Texas-sized JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa has over 1,000 guest rooms and wide open spaces. The complex sprawls over 600 acres and is the largest JW Marriott Resort in the world. Hotel resort fees are controversial, but here the $40 fee is well worth the money when you spend time at what is truly a destination resort.
The nine-acre River Bluffs Water Experience has a 650’ rapid-river ride, three water slides and a 1,100-foot lazy river. There are Kids’ Nights Out, Backyard Games, poolside activities, hiking and biking trails, and nature walks.
An astronomer teaches the proper use of telescopes at Friday night star parties. On Saturday mornings tours of the organic garden that serves the 18 Oaks Steakhouse are offered. There’s a Nightlife Nature Walk on Saturday nights, and on weekend nights, there’s s’mores at the fire pit.
Holidays bring on more special events. This popular conference site provides a great getaway for all.
Adults find serenity in their own pool, along with the hot and cold plunge pools, whirlpools and an activity pool. The library features books about Texas and written by Texas authors and there are rocking chairs in the back yard.
PGA-Certified Golf
The two PGA-Certified golf courses are among the best in America and part of the TPC Network of private and destination golf clubs. The 2,800 acre TPC San Antonio is one of only three places in the world to host two PGA events a year.
The property was named a Top 75 Golf Resort by Golf Digest and one of the Best Courses You Can Play by Golf Week and Golf Magazine.
The spa experience
At 26,000 square feet, the Texas-size Lantana Spa is the largest spa facility in the state. Just as village healers known as curanderos on the Mexican border used curative indigenous plants and herbs, treatments here incorporate native Hill Country botanicals like wild lavender, sarsaparilla, and juniper.
Day passes are available for enjoying the private pool area, steam room, sauna, aromatherapy room, whirlpools, fitness center, and yoga and exercise classes.
Spirited dining
The main restaurant, Cibolo Moon, has a big and bountiful breakfast buffet where you can sample their smoky brisket.
It is the first restaurant in Texas to become “T” certified by the Tequila Regulatory Council of Mexico. There are 75 varieties and 10 infusions to explore with the tequila master and five-course Tequila Dinners with interactive tasting and pairing.
18 Oaks Steakhouse serves dry-aged steak from nearby Windy Bar Ranch. And it’s a place to try something unique like Chef Jeffrey Surprise’s cured pickles and Windy Bar Ranch Smoked Jerky. There’s a five-course Scotch Dinner that includes special aged pairings.
You don’t have to be an Aggie fan to enjoy anything from a Texas Black & Blue (blackened Angus burger, blue cheese, fried jalapenos and onion straws) to a Beer and Bourbon dinner while watching the game on the 120-foot long HD video wall in High Velocity. It’s also a place to sample the best from Texas brewers and distillery masters.
When you are ready to venture beyond the resort, the concierge is ready to assist with tours of Hill Country. For more on activities, packages and pricing visit the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa website.
